What Kind of Kitchen Knives Do You Need?

Kitchens are the one room of our home where we seem to spend the most amount of time, whether we're cooking or eating. The one thing both of these pastimes have in common is the need for a knife. Knives are available in many stores today. You'll be amazed at the variety of different styles of knives you'll find from serrated, paring, bread, chef's knives and filet's, to fantastic steak knife sets. Which brand is best, and which knives do we really need in our kitchen?

When it comes to brands of knives, you'll find an excellent choice of brands of knifes like Global Knives, JA Henckel Knives, and Shun Knives, to name just a few. Whether it's paring knives, chefs knives or a great steak knife set you're after, you'll have no problem finding something that meets your needs and fits within your budget.

What is the best brand for me?

If you know what type of knife you need, you may feel that's half the battle. After all, if you need a good steak knife set, you can always go to your local discount store and get a cheap set, right? You can if you want to be replacing it within a few months because the blade is bent, rusted or no longer sharp. While you don't need to get the most well-known or expensive knives in the world, you want a good quality knife, which you'll find in all the brands I've mentioned above.

Global Knives, for example, offer a large variety of knife styles. The great thing about Global Knives is that they also offer a wide range of prices to fit every budget. When choosing knives from your kitchen, whether from chef knives, paring knives or steak knife sets, look for a brand that is known for good craftsmanship and comes with a warranty. Your knives will get a lot of use on a daily basis so you want something that's going to last.

What Type of Knives Do I Need?

Whether you're just starting off on your own or are looking to redo your kitchen with all new supplies, you're going to need some good knives. Once you've decided what brand of knife you want (Global, Shun, JA Henckels, etc.), your next dilemma is going to be the type. While many people love having a complete knife rack filled with knives, do you really need all those knives?

Everyone needs chef knives as they can be used for many purposes: chopping, slicing, mincing, etc. Global knives offer a great selection of chef knives at wide range of prices as well. Nothing can ruin an excellent meal for a cook faster than having dull chef knives.  Get yourself a good high – quality chef's knife.

Although steak knife sets have their name because they're used with steaks, they also serve many other purposes. A steak knife set may not be a necessity when you're first starting out, but they can be a great asset in your kitchen. If you're a steak lover, you want a set of knives that will cut your steak easily.

Paring knives are a great all-purpose knife for simple cutting and preparation of meals.
Serrated knives are more a matter of personal preference but are enjoyed by many. If you can't afford to get a complete knife set, these are some knives that will get you started.
